Being a science teacher means being a scientific communicator, where we hone our scientific message using modified vocabulary, streamlined diagrams and simplified models to communicate a complex concept in a more accessible way.   This session will explore ways that we can ask our students to do the same, to effectively and accurately communicate a complex scientific concept to both scientific and non-scientific audiences.  Some example assessments will be shared, and participants will be encouraged to share assignments from their own classrooms.  Participants who choose to share assignments will be asked to describe what went well and what they would like to change for that assignment with the overall goal of inspiring all participants to include, or improve, scientific communication assessments in their future classrooms.
