Please note: Please plan on attending Part I and 2 of this presentation. Also, participation is limited to 20 participants so please reserve your spot by selecting the session.
Participants will complete the hands-on portion of the
IDAH20 Master Water Stewards citizen science training. This is an outdoor, "in-stream" training that guides participants through making a habitat assessment, a physical (temperature and turbidity) and chemical (dissolved oxygen and pH levels) assessment, and a biological assessment (sampling for macroinvertebrates) of a local stream. Participants will be taking measurements during this session, and should dress for a 'streamside' or 'in-stream' experience.
These assessments are modular, and adaptable to classrooms of various ages. This is a great option for Life Science, Earth Science, Environmental Science, and Biology teachers of 6th through 12th grade, but teachers of any discipline are welcome.
Participants are asked to complete the 3 hour self-paced study ahead of time, which provides context on the assessments and increases the time for hands-on learning during the practicum portion. Teachers will receive 2 extra CEUs if they complete the self-paced study.
